Wanneroo has a long and wonderful tradition of market gardening. Wanneroo produces 38 percent of the total agricultural production in the Perth area, with over 100 horticultural growers employing more than 1000 people.
The McGowan Government is committed to horticultural production in Wanneroo. I was the Chair of the North Wanneroo Agriculture and Water Taskforce which examined water allocation and land use issues in North Wanneroo.
In response to the report findings, the Government is developing a business case for a new leasehold agricultural precinct in State Forest 65 in North Wanneroo, incorporating the use of recycled water.
The Government is also investing in a new Water Use Efficiency Program to support growers and industry to assess and promote technology options that improve efficient water use, ensuring industry viability in a drying climate.
